🇸🇪 RIAT Expands in Sweden! Last week, the Reintegration Assistance Tool (RIAT) team travelled to Gothenburg, Stockholm, and Malmö, training over 50 return counsellors on using RIAT as their primary tool for #reintegration case management. For the first time, we piloted a blended #training approach, combining an #online #digital module on RIAT essentials with face-to-face sessions. This ensures a more flexible and comprehensive #learning experience. With RIAT now implemented across Sweden’s six open #return centres, counsellors can document cases in real time, reducing delays and improving follow-ups. For the Swedish Migration Agency (SMA) in Stockholm, this also strengthens oversight and coordination across regions. 🌟 After 12 months of intensive implementation, the Reaching Undocumented Migrants (RUM) project concluded yesterday with a hybrid meeting that brought together our dedicated partners Mixed Migration Centre (MMC), Migration Policy Institute, Fedasil and RRF stakeholders. This journey has been one of cooperation, engagement, and meaningful progress. By merging theoretical knowledge, data collection, and research with practical field visits and peer exchanges, the RUM project highlighted: 🔍 the strong appetite among practitioners and experts to better understand #undocumented #migrants in #Europe — their profiles, needs, and migration patterns; 📊 the need for improved data collection and greater investment in research; 💡 the demand from frontline workers for training and continuous discussions on how to best support this vulnerable group. Our achievements include: ✅ an interactive dashboard with data on 1,000 migrants in Belgium and France. ✅ a policy brief outlining the diversity of initiatives, actors, and practices in return counselling; ✅ a monitoring and evaluation framework for frontline workers; ✅ a hands-on training module on outreach and counselling for undocumented migrants with mental health and substance use disorders. ℹ️ All deliverables are available in the closed space on the RRF website for our members.
